Every piece of work has one person answerable for it — a direct line, not a switchboard.
Our team is made up of a chartered accountant, a construction technician, a site manager, property advisers and client relations specialists. In managing a development, unless accounting, technical work and human relations meet at the same table, gaps open up between them; the same is true of valuation, law and marketing in a property transaction.
The way we work is simple: every file has one person responsible for it, and that person stays the same from beginning to end. When you call, nobody tells you they will pass you to the colleague handling it. The manager responsible has seen your development or property in person, has read the agreement and knows the history.
We keep the distance between the field and the desk short. What the technical team sees on site is recorded the same day, the finance side puts that record into the budget, and reporting brings the two together on one page. Information lost in between comes back later as an unexpected cost.
